So let's figure out who is in these pictures! I (Brian) am dead center of the group shot, in the dark shirt. I think the blured face on the right is David, who is on the left of the 2nd picture. Ryan, our blogger is in the bottom picture. Can anyone else pick themselves out?

There is a shortage of young people in Recovery- we need you!

Our Stories

*Ryan A., Provo, UT Recovery has done wonders for me-or rather I have done wonders for myself through what I've learned in Recovery. Life is fun again, I am free to learn to explore to savor what happens in my life without fear. It wasn't always so, two years ago I suffered from acute Depression to the point that I wished I could die, not only die but stop existing altogether. I used to hate myself and distrust everything about myself. I lived in constant dread because of my defeatist beliefs that I was inadequate, worthless, insignificant etc. This was no fault of my own. I didn't cause it, didn't choose it, but I did choose to overcome it. It was hard at first but not anymore. *Kelly O., Detroit, MI I have been attending Recovery meetings for about 10 years. I have always struggled with low self esteem and self confidence. I always felt other people were better than me. In addition, I have been overly perfectionistic and self absorbed. I have learned some great Recovery tools after reading the Recovery books (Mental Health Through Will Training and Manage Your Anger Manage Your Fears). Some of my favorites include doing things in part acts, drop the exceptionality, be group minded, security lies within not in people places or things, act in a cultured manner, have the will to effort over will to comfort, stop the complaining habit, and replace insecure thoughts with secure thoughts. The Recovery meetings have also helped me in group situtations since you have to be quiet while someone is giving their example, listen closely to what others are saying so that you can comment and then provide support to the other members of the group in terms of spotting. While I am not an official group leader I have run meetings when the leader has not been there and I have started acting as the Treasurer for my Dayton, OH group. I am so grateful for Recovery International. *Brian P., MI I joined Recovery back in 2002. Despite a lifetime of being nervous and fearful, I had graduated college and was working full time. I was getting by, but I was still afraid and depressed all the time. The loneliness, sleepless, and nausea had not changed, but I started to feel hopeless. I started to believe that I would never be able to live a normal life. With Recovery, I’ve been able to take control of my life, face new challenges, and believe that I have a future that is worth living. I continue to stay with Recovery because it is a safe place to try new things.

Public Relations

Ryan A., Provo, UT. Today I went to the Psychology department at Brigham Young University and left a Recovery Pamphlet at the main desk. I also got e-mails for the directors of two student groups within the Psychology department. Go me!
Brian P., Detroit, MI Today I dropped in the mail a packet of information for a therapist who had requested information about Recovery. Doctor's recommendations net us quite a few new members. :)
